A Brief History Of Nike
Nike is one of those legendary brands that feels like it’s always been around. There’s just something about the eye-catching commercials, the celebrity endorsements, and that famous swoosh that solidifies its place in history and to this day.
Nike was founded, all the way back in 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. Back then, the shoe company was called Blue Ribbon Sports. Blue Ribbon Sports began selling their shoes to the American market and quickly saw success. They weren’t the same quality as the Adidas and Pumas shoes of the time, but they had their place with the right audience.
In 1965, Bowerman proposed a new shoe design that revolutionized the brand’s sneaker offering. And soon, relations with their Japanese manufacturing company, Tiger, began to sour. Eventually, after a lawsuit from Tiger in 1971, the two companies broke ties and Blue Ribbon Sports rebranded as the Nike we know today.
It was a few years later when the iconic Nike swoosh logo would be created — and for only $35 no less! This helped establish the new brand’s growing identity as they also began testing new styles and sole designs.
One design in particular — the waffle sole — helped catapult the brand and its shoes to major success.
And the success kept coming.
In 1984, Nike made one of the best decisions it ever could have — signing a deal with Michael Jordan. A year later, Nike rolled out its Air Jordans shoe line, securing over $100 million in revenue in just one year.
Nike followed up this endorsement with the still-popular “Just Do It” campaign and other, popular celebrity endorsements like Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James
Nike continues to dominate the performance market, partnering with many organizations like the NBA to roll our branded merchandise. This secures its spot as a leader in the industry. And with new shoes, collaborations and endorsements coming every year, we’re ready to see what comes next.

The Nike shoes sold the most in 2020 is the iconic Nike Air Force 1 Low. The basketball-turned-lifestyle silhouette is available now via Nike.com in both men’s and women’s sizing for $90.
While the aesthetics of both are quite similar, customers say the Yeezy sole is a bit comfier in the sole area though both are great lightweight, knit options.
