FIRST LOOK Air Jordan 14 “Gym Red” Releasing June 2020

Fans of the Air Jordan 14 have some exciting news to look forward to with three upcoming colorways set for release later this year. While one is rumored to release in the Spring another during the Fall, the Jordan Brand also has another one scheduled for the first week of June.

The Design

Currently called the Air Jordan “Gym Red,” this new iteration of Michael Jordan’s 14th shoe is going to sport a combination of colors that are inspired by MJ’s famed Chicago Bulls squad. This Air Jordan 14 will be dressed in black, white, and gym red. This much-anticipated shoe will feature a red upper that has black trim at the toe box, the heel as well as the sock liner. Off-white will cover up the midsole.

The History

Fans of the Air Jordan 14 and the Jordan Brand in general along with Bulls’ fans are excited for this release on June 6 considering the immense popularity of the last Jordan 14 that took after the Bulls’ hues — the “Last Shot” colorway, which Michael himself used in what is considered to be one of the NBA’s most iconic moments.

Down one to the Utah Jazz in Game 6 of the 1998 finals, Jordan, with the black/red pair on, sank a picturesque jump shot over Bryon Russell to seal Chicago’s sixth championship. That shot proved to be Michael’s very last one in a Chicago Bulls uniform as he retired his retirement not long after that before making a brief return with the Washington Wizards.

The Air Jordan 14 was initially released more than 20 years ago, in 1998. Designed by the equally legendary Tinker Hatfield, the shoe featured a Ferrari-inspired design that alluded to Michael’s passion for motorsports.

Aside from the “Last Shot,” the Air Jordan 14 has also been released in several other colorways such as the “Candy Cane,” the “Indiglo” and then, the “Black Toe.”
