Nike was founded on January 25th, 1964, in Eugene, Oregon, under the name Blue Ribbon Sports. At the time, “BRS” was a distributor for the Japanese shoemaker named Onitsuka Tiger. Founded by the legendary University of Oregon track athlete Phil Knight and his track coach bill Bowerman this iconic duo eventually cut ties with Onitsuka and rebranded the company that we now know as Nike.
