Released back in December 2017, the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Re2pect” paid tribute to New York Yankees legend and one of Jordan Brand’s pre-eminent ambassadors — Derek Jeter.

The Design

This version of the famous Jordan 1 silhouette was all-business. Taking after the work ethic of the iconic Yankee shortstop that inspired the “Re2pect” campaign. The shoe is made of black nubuck that is paired with grey leather. What made the shoe stand out was the barely visible lettering subtly seen over the black portion of the sneaker. These are words that are, by and large, associated with Jeter. These included Re2pect, Fearless, Lead, and Focus.

The Collaboration

As a collaboration, Jeter and Michael Jordan are a match made in heaven. Throughout their decorated and championship-winning careers, the two athletes have consistently exemplified the virtues of true winners in their pursuit of excellence in their own sports.

Jeter was, without a shadow of a doubt, the most high-profile non-basketball athlete in the roster of Jordan Brand ambassadors.  Jordan Brand quickly scooped up Jeter in 2002 and made him the very first baseball endorser of the company. Jeter soon became the longest-tenured Jordan Brand athlete outside of Michael Jordan himself.

The revered partnership has resulted in some of the most cherished sneakers the brand has ever had like the Air Jordan 11 “Jeter.” Since his signing, the Jordan Brand has showered Jeter with several signature shoes starting with the Jeter Jumpman Turn 2 in 2002.

It was soon followed by the Jeter Jumpman DJ, the Jeter Jumpman Jet, the Jeter Jumpman 6-4-3, the Jeter Jumpman Official, the Jeter Jumpman Vital, the Jeter Jumpman Clutch, the Jeter Jumpman Captain, the Jeter Jumpman Throwback, the Jordan Jeter Cut, the Jeter Legend Elite and the Jeter Lux Metal.
